Identify who books the care, where it takes place and who handles each handover.
Identify the booking
A hotel nanny assignment may mean childcare for one visiting family in its room, a hotel-arranged service, or work booked by an independent provider. Those are different relationships. Ask who engages and pays you, who gives the care instructions, and who can change the booking. Care.com describes hotel childcare and outsourced recommendations as possible vacation-care routes; it is one provider description, not a rule for every hotel.
Define the setting and access
Get the hotel name, care location, children’s ages, expected activities and access plan before accepting. Ask whether care stays in the room, can move to another hotel area, or includes an outing. Identify how a parent will be reached and where you should meet them for the first and final handovers. Avoid assuming the front desk is authorized to approve a change.
Make a booking worksheet
Put the date and start and finish times beside the named adult handing over each child. Add the room or meeting point, approved spaces, food and bedtime instructions, contact route and backup contact. Mark each unanswered field as pending. A clear worksheet is especially useful when a family is visiting and familiar home routines are absent.
Test a fictional arrival
Fictional example: a parent asks you to meet in the lobby at 6 p.m. The booking says room care, but the parent expects a walk to dinner. Pause and ask the named booking contact to confirm the location, end time and responsibility for travel between places. Then update the brief before the parent leaves. The example is an invented planning exercise.
Close the assignment
Confirm the return contact and the method for recording any change in finish time. At handover, report the relevant facts about the children and return any access item through the agreed route. Keep the assignment separate from a general event childcare role: one family’s room booking does not automatically create responsibility for other guests’ children.
Questions to take to the agency
- Who books and employs me: the household, an agency or the hotel?
- Is care for one named family or a changing group of guests?
- Who confirms the room, authorized handover and end of the booking?
