Understand Norland’s degree, diploma and newly qualified stage without assuming a job guarantee.

Understand the name

Norland says the professional title “Norland Nanny” or “Norlander” follows completion of its integrated training and Newly Qualified Nanny year. It is a named qualification path from one institution, not a generic title for every experienced nanny. If a posting uses the term, ask whether it requires that completed qualification or simply describes a preference.

Separate degree and diploma

Norland’s current undergraduate page describes a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Education and Care degree studied alongside its practical diploma. The institution says the two are integrated. Course names and awards can differ by cohort, so compare a candidate’s actual certificate and dates with the requirements in the specific posting rather than renaming an older award.

Recognize the NQN stage

Norland describes the Newly Qualified Nanny, or NQN, year as a paid, full-time probationary nanny position after three years of training. Its FAQ says the diploma and professional title follow successful completion of that year. Norland’s employer page likewise distinguishes an NQN from someone who has already earned the diploma. Ask which stage a candidate has completed.

Make a credential check

For a job application, record the exact degree title if held, the diploma status, whether the NQN year is complete and the issuing institution. Request evidence through the agency’s ordinary process. Do not infer a particular salary, suitability for one child, or eligibility for every agency role from the name alone.

Test a fictional posting

Fictional example: a posting says “Norland preferred,” while an applicant has finished the degree and is beginning the NQN year. The applicant can state that precise stage and ask whether the employer will consider an NQN. The example does not imply endorsement by Norland or a promise of placement.

Questions to take to the agency

  • Which exact qualification and training stage does the employer require?
  • How can the stated credential be verified through the institution?
  • Does the vacancy accept other relevant qualifications?
