A nanny job advertisement being visible tells you that you can see the advertisement. It does not tell you whether the family is accepting fresh candidates, reviewing a shortlist or considering someone further along. Before investing in extensive preparation, ask what stage the search has reached and what your next action would accomplish.

You do not need to accuse an agency of advertising a nonexistent job to ask for that clarity. This guide helps you check the current opportunity behind an identifiable listing. It does not assess whether the wording of the duties or compensation suits you; that is a separate reading task.

Identify the exact opening

Save the agency name, job reference, official listing link and the date you viewed it. If you found the advertisement on another website, follow its link to the originating agency and compare the reference and essential details. Similar location and pay wording do not prove that two advertisements concern the same family.

Note any displayed closing date or status without inventing a meaning for an absent date. “Posted recently,” “still visible” and “accepting applications today” are different statements. If the page does not answer the last question, record it as unresolved.

British American Household Staffing distinguishes general applications from applications through a specific job page. That is its own application structure. A specific listing or application route still does not confirm the current stage of another agency's search.

Ask what “open” means here

A broad answer such as “the position is open” may leave your practical question unanswered. Ask whether the agency is currently reviewing new applicants for possible introduction to this family. If the recruiter describes a shortlist or later-stage candidate, ask whether new applications are being assessed now or retained for a possible later need.

Those are possible arrangements to clarify, not a list of proven reasons advertisements remain online. Do not assume you are a backup candidate because an interview has not arrived. Equally, you can ask directly whether the proposed next step is for a current opportunity or future contingency.

If the agency says the search is paused, find out whether anything is expected from you now. You can remain interested without treating a paused search as an appointment, offer or reason to stop pursuing other suitable work.

Match your effort to the confirmed step

Use this original decision table before committing additional time or expense. It does not set an agency's process or tell you to bypass required application steps.

What is confirmedUseful next questionYour planning decision
A listing is visibleAre fresh applications being reviewed for this role?Read the brief and follow the stated enquiry or application route.
New candidates are being assessedWhat is the next required step for me?Decide whether that step is proportionate and feasible.
Your details would be held for a possible later needIs any interview or preparation expected now?Decide whether to remain available for contact without assuming progress.
An interview is actually requestedWhat are the confirmed arrangements?Plan around the real appointment and agreed commitments.

Before travel, extensive unpaid preparation or another consequential commitment, seek the details needed to make your own decision. A vague possibility is not enough information to budget around. This is a practical planning boundary, not a determination of payment or cancellation rights.

Send a neutral status check

Check whether the agency permits individual enquiries. If it directs candidates to apply without contacting a recruiter, use that process and decide what effort you are comfortable investing with the information available. A sample message does not override published instructions.

Invented example — adaptable message: “Hi Jordan, I am interested in role N67 on your website. Before arranging the requested preparation call, could you clarify whether you are currently considering new candidates for this family or keeping details available in case the search reopens? I am interested either way, but it would help me understand what the next step involves. Thank you, Casey.”

Say you are interested either way only if that is true. You may instead state that you are currently focusing on active searches. You do not need to justify every personal scheduling or financial limit.

Record the answer with its limits

Save the answer, date and practical next step. If you are told applications are being reviewed, that confirms the described process at that time. It does not promise your submission or an interview.

If the reply remains vague, identify the missing point once through the permitted channel. Then decide whether to proceed, defer further effort or pursue other opportunities. Do not label an unresolved listing fake or closed without evidence. You can protect your time while leaving an unknown status honestly unknown.
