Set up a reliable conversation and prepare truthful examples for a remote meeting.

Confirm the appointment

Check who will attend, which platform to use, the time zone, expected length and whether the meeting is with the recruiter or family. Ask whether any activity, document or reference discussion is expected. A live interview is different from the recorded introduction covered in the video guide.

Make the setup work

Test camera, microphone, connection and meeting link before the appointment. Choose a quiet place with light on your face, and put your device at a comfortable height. Use headphones if they help you hear. Keep a phone number or other agreed fallback handy in case the call fails. You do not need a polished studio.

Prepare evidence rather than a script

Write three short reminders: a relevant care situation, what you did, and what you learned or would clarify. Keep dates and availability beside them. The agency interview preparation guide helps you build these examples. Avoid sharing photos or identifying stories about children from previous jobs to make an answer vivid.

Handle the live conversation

Look toward the camera at moments, but use the screen to listen and take notes. If audio cuts out, say what you missed instead of guessing. Ask for a question to be repeated or for a moment to think. Clarify whether the person wants a general answer or an example from your own experience. A natural pause is better than a memorized claim you cannot support.

Close and follow up

Before the call ends, ask about the next decision, likely timeline and best contact route. Write down anything you promised to provide. If the connection failed, explain the interruption briefly and offer the agreed fallback. Send a short follow-up only when useful; the interview follow-up guide covers the message and timing.

Nanny Authority’s candidate FAQ names Skype or FaceTime interviews as possible steps in its own process. Check the platform and stage for your actual agency.

Five-minute rehearsal: Open the meeting link, record a short test clip for yourself, check that your name appears correctly and place the job posting within reach. Put a glass of water nearby. Write two questions about the specific role and one about the next stage. Close unrelated tabs and silence notifications. If a child or household member interrupts, pause briefly and resume; you do not need to invent an explanation.
