Use a translation to understand a posting, then confirm important terms against the original and with the agency.

Treat the original posting as the reference

An AI translation can make a job posting easier to read, but it can lose conditions that matter: live-in housing, overnight work, travel, driving, guaranteed hours or whether a duty is occasional. Keep the original text beside the translation and identify the version and date you saw.

Do not upload a private household brief or a recruiter’s confidential attachment to an ordinary translation service without permission. For practice, use public text or a short invented example. NIST’s Generative AI Profile describes risks from inaccurate generated content; a fluent translation still needs checking.

Mark terms that change your decision

Highlight pay, schedule, location, accommodation, travel, responsibilities and application instructions in both versions. Ask the tool to show the original phrase beside each translation. If it supplies an interpretation rather than a direct rendering, label that as a question.

Keep numbers, dates and units in the original form until confirmed. A weekly schedule that reads as ‘two days off’ may still include an overnight handover. Do not infer that a translated phrase creates a contractual promise.

Ask for a precise clarification

Send the agency one short question tied to the source wording: ‘The posting says “on call” on Sunday. Does that mean I must remain available, and what hours are expected?’ Ask about the role rather than asking the agency to certify a whole machine translation.

Fictional example: a public posting says ‘travel occasionally.’ A translation says ‘monthly travel.’ The candidate marks the frequency unconfirmed and asks the agency what the family expects. The candidate does not accept or reject the role on the generated frequency alone.

Keep a usable decision note

Save the original URL or permitted copy, the date and the agency’s answer. Update your note if the posting changes. If two languages are used in an offer, ask which text governs the actual terms and request a qualified translation or advice where the stakes warrant it.

AI can help you form the right question. The agency and the eventual written agreement must supply the answer about this particular job.
